Job description

We’re looking for an Advanced Control Engineer to develop adaptive and autonomous control functions for the CPPC Tiers (FDIR, self-tuning, etc.) platform. In this role, you’ll design control logic that can respond intelligently to faults, uncertainty, and changing grid conditions - while remaining safe, stable, and certifiable.
This is a senior role for someone who understands that adaptive does not mean unbounded. You’ll work at the edge of automation and control theory, building systems that can self-adjust and recover while remaining predictable, explainable, and compliant with grid and safety constraints.
This role is fully remote.
What You Will Do
Design and implement automated Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) logic
Extend and maintain hierarchical control state machines governing system behavior and autonomy
Develop PID and gain self-tuning mechanisms with strict bounds, supervision, and rollback strategies
Ensure adaptive control behavior remains stable, safe, and explainable under all operating conditions
Validate adaptive and autonomous behavior using simulations, stress scenarios, and failure injection
Collaborate closely with control, real-time software, and power systems engineers to bring advanced control concepts into production
Contribute to architectural decisions around autonomy, safety, and control governance
Why Join Us
You will join a fast-growing technology company operating in a complex and challenging industrial and energy environment, where software and engineering innovation has a real impact on systems and infrastructure.
We work on highly complex projects that require strong technical expertise, ownership, and close collaboration across multidisciplinary teams (software, control, automation, operations).
Positions are open both to professionals working as contractors and to candidates interested in on-site employee roles, depending on the profile, experience, and project needs.
We welcome applications from local candidates, available to work on-site, as well as from professionals based worldwide, in line with the applicable contractual model.
We offer a dynamic, results-oriented work environment, where people are actively involved in projects and valued for the contribution they bring

Job requirements
You think rigorously about stability, safety, and failure modes
Strong background in advanced control theory and system dynamics
Proven experience implementing adaptive, self-tuning, or autonomous control in industrial environments
Comfortable working in regulated, safety-critical contexts where behavior must be bounded and auditable
Able to reason about edge cases, transitions, and degraded modes, not just nominal behavior
Able to work with globally distributed teams, with at least a 4-hour overlap with CET/CEST
Eligible to obtain a visa and able to travel to Italy within three months of hiring
